Stand Up Paddleboarding & SUP Fit with Jo

Since records began, humans have been captivated by water and I am no exception. I love the sea; its mesmerising movement, its salty aroma, its ability to calm and recharge, and the endless ways in which we have learnt to ride it. 

​

After discovering Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) in 2010 it quickly became my go-to, quick fix for getting afloat. It is such a fun and accessible sport for all ages and abilities. Beyond your basic paddling there are so many other ways to enjoy time on SUP boards including touring, surfing, yoga, and fitness.     

​

Becoming a BSUPA Instructor and Fitness Coach allowed me to combine my passions, enabling and encouraging others to discover the wonders of SUP and stay fit for life. It is hugely rewarding to see customers and friends enjoying their precious time on the water in a fun, adventurous and safe way.

Why paddleboarding is good for you 

Full Body Workout 

Unlike many other sports, SUP works the entire body, engaging all major muscle groups and building cardiovascular fitness. The muscles in your legs are working hard to keep your feet firmly on the board, your core is engaged to keep you centred and balanced, whilst your upper body is put to work to propel you through the water. 

 

Coordination and Balance

Paddleboarding is great for coordination and balance because it requires constant adjustment on an unstable surface, engaging your core, legs, and stabilising muscles. It improves proprioception (your body’s sense of position), strengthens the mind-body connection, and enhances full-body coordination as you paddle and balance simultaneously. These benefits translate directly to everyday activities, making paddleboarding a highly effective, low-impact way to improve functional movement and overall stability.   

 

Blue Mind

Being in, on or near water positively impacts our emotional and physical well-being and enhances mental clarity. Paddleboarding uniquely taps into this by combining physical movement with immersion in natural, aquatic environments. As we glide over the ocean or float gently in a pool, the sensory experience sooths the mind and reduces stress.  

 

Fun and Sociable 

SUP combines physical exercise with the freedom of being out on the water, all while being easy to learn and enjoyable for all ages. It offers a unique way to explore our river and coastline, often leading to shared moments of laughter and adventure with friends old and new. Whether you’re gliding peacefully side by side, challenging yourself with a race or tour, or building strength in a SUP Fit class, paddleboarding encourages connection and inclusion. 

 

SUP Club Social

 

Get afloat. Connect. Explore.

 

Join us for regular, relaxed paddleboarding sessions for competent social paddlers. SUP Social provides a time and place to get away from it all, improve balance and fitness, build confidence on the board, take in the scenery, and meet like-minded people.

Meeting on Tuesdays and paddling out from 6.30 to 8pm between May and September (weather and tide dependant).

 

SUP Fit

 

Take your exercise routine to new places with SUP Fit. These unique fitness sessions combine stand-up paddleboarding with dynamic full-body workouts for a fun, low-impact way to build strength, improve balance, tone and boost your cardio – all while soaking in the sun and scenery. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned paddler, this energising class, at the historic Seawater Baths, is the perfect way to get fit and feel refreshed. Just come in your gym kit and go with the flow.   

 

Every Thursday and Friday at 9-10am from April to October.

 

SUP Adventures

 

Join me for a two-, three- or four-hour paddle boarding adventure as we explore local harbours and salt marshes, stop at a special location for refreshments, and take in all the benefits of a day on the water. This is a relaxed, social trip perfect for groups or individuals looking to paddle further, soak up the scenery, and enjoy good company. Includes a qualified guide, board hire, lunch is optional.
